Social Media and Events Coordinator

We’re looking for a Social Media and Event Intern to join our all-volunteer team. You’ll be responsible for managing Global Art and Design Project’s social media platforms and helping to plan and execute a fundraising event in 2015. Working on your own schedule and with little oversight, this position is a great opportunity for an independent, self-motivated individual who is interested in gaining experience and skills in social media and event planning and learning more about a startup nonprofit focused on international youth development and arts education.

Social Media
  • In partnership with Founder/CEO, develop creative and compelling content for social media platforms
  • Lead online outreach and promotion using Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
  • Create and manage social media content calendar
  • Develop quarterly email newsletter
  • Analyze and report on social media data
  • Identify creative ways to grow Global Art and Design Project’s following across social media channels
Event Planning
  • Work with board of directors to brainstorm fundraising event ideas
  • Research and solicit sponsors, event space and food vendors, and participants
  • Work with board of directors to coordinate logistics of event
  • Manage social media promotion of event
Minimum Skills and Qualifications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Firm understanding of mainstream social media tools and platforms
  • Creative and flexible
  • Self-motivated; able to follow instructions and also work independently in an unstructured environment
  • Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
  • Passion for start-up organizations, the nonprofit sector, South Africa, youth development, arts education, or graphic design
  • Previous social media and/or event planning experience

Position Reports to: Global Art and Design Project Founder/CEO, based in Southern California

Start Date: Position open until filled; requires 3-6 month commitment, with the possibility to extend the internship

Hours: 5-10 hours/week, with an increase in hours leading up to the fundraising event. Working hours can be scheduled on your own time, and you have the ability to work from home. Regular check-in calls with the Founder/CEO will be required.
